Serendipity

Image
Serendipity I created this pin with a technique from Making Polymer Clay Beads by Carol Blackburn . I was experimenting making a wood like effect. I had made the bead for a pendent but did not use it at the time. I had a class in Art History and the students took a part a computer while they learned about Picasso and Found objects.     I attached the tiny spring to the surface not really knowing how I would use it. I had a brush that I had broken a few weeks a go laying on the table and decided that the little spring would be perfect to hold the tiny brush.  I incorporated gold wire and a tiny pearl flower as well . That was perfect! I put resin over the whole surface to give it a glass like finish. When the pin was set, I used metallic gold to give it richness.                                           Artful Pins by Joy

Creating in My Studio

Image
While I am in my studio working on a creative project or just organizing my materiel,  creating surfaces and collage material, I have my iPod with a background of some podcast that inspires me. One of my favorite podcast is Creative Living with Jamie Ridler   She has some wonderful artists that she has on her show and I just really love to listen to them. I feel like she is right there in my studio. I think listening pod-casts and watching you tubes is a great way to always feed your own creative well. Check it out or find another podcast that you find inspiring. Joy

Plasic is Beautiful Sculpture

Image
I used material that is ordinarily looked at as trash and unimportant and  transform it through the alchemy of creativity. It is my belief that plastic is the new art material and a perfect resource for artists. Someday in the future we will be seen as the ancients and our art if created with plastic will last into the future way after we are no longer here on earth. Why not leave something beautiful that will tell our story through the use of plastic and other"Green" material..

I put resin coat over the whole thing and when it was dry,  painted the back and edges with bronze paint to give it a material effect. I combine a variety of material in my jewelry and have recently started using computer parts as well as hardware and found objects anything that I have to make my jewelry unique . I still like to give my pieces an aged look like ancient jewelry form another time perhaps the future,

Working with the Sizzex

Image
Experimenting with my Sizzex and some of the techniques and materials that I used as I explore what the machine can do. I believe that it is important to experiment with a new tool or media , It is a way to gain a sense of comfort with what you are working on. I have to admit that I was very nervous about working with the Sizzex and until I just started, I was procrastinating, Well this is a method that I use to get over the fear, I just take the first step. After that I was so excited,  I embossed everything and experimented with all kinds of material. I think everyone is a bit intimidated  with something new. What material or new technique are you feeling anxious about trying?  I will be adding some  other videos and photos my continued work and all the new things I am creating with the Sizzex. It is so much fun!

Art in Many Forms

I believe that creativity is a journey that we all travel even though our paths may be different. I also believe that creativity is a process that we can and must trust. As an artist, I am always experimenting and exploring. I call it creative play instead of work because I believe that creating is a joyful experience! To participate in the magic, we need to begin somewhere, anywhere, to jump into the unknown. Creativity is a journey, a wonderful inner venture that takes us to amazing places in our self. All that we must do is trust our own muse and the direction that She is leading us. I hope to meet other fellow travelers who are also on the creative journey and perhaps share our discovered landscapes together. Creativity, though a lone experience, can may also be shared with another creative traveler. As artists we do not walk alone.... .
